나라는 군이 지키고 군은 국민이 지켜야 한다!

국방안보 없이는 자유도 평화도 번영도 없다. 나라를 잃으면 이 모든 걸 잃게 된다. 전쟁을 막고 나라를 지키려면 강한 군대가 있어야 한다. 강한 군대가 있어야 외교도 동맹관리도 유리하게 할 수 있다. 6.25전쟁으로 나라를 잃을뻔한 대한민국은 강한 군대를 절실하게 느꼈고 온 국민이 힘을 모아 군을 발전시켜왔다.

"싸우면서 일하고 일하면서 싸우자"

이는 북한의 끈임없는 도발을 막고 경제발전을 하기위해 노력하던 시절 대한민국의 국정 슬로건이었다. 이제 대한민국의 국방력은 세계 10위권내로 평가받을 정도로 강해졌다. 육군은 모든 첨단기술을 도입하여 스마트 국방력을 강화시켜왔고 해군은 막강한 이지스함과 수직발사탄도미사일 (SLBM)이 장착된 국산잠수함을 운용하고 있으며 공군은 제5세대 전투기인 F-35를 실전배치하고 우주군 역량을 강화하고 있다. 해병대는 해병항공단을 창설하고 전략기동군 역량을 강화하고 있다.

우리의 국방력 강화, 기술발전 그리고 국가경제를 위해 방산육성에 매진하여 세계적 방산강국으로 발전하였다. 이러한 역량을 갖추기 위해 수많은 국민이 헌신하였다. 위국헌신 군인정신으로 군 복무를 하다 순직한 장병도 있고 뜨거운 애국심으로 무기개발에 매진하며 일생을 바친 과학자들도 많다. 수많은 국민의 피와 땀 덕분에 나라를 지키며 국력을 키울 수 있었다.

적은 늘 상대국가를 감시하고 있다. 갑작스럽게 외부의 적이 쳐들어 와서 나라가 망하는 것 같지만 침략자들도 대상국가의 군대가 강하고 국민이 군을 지지하고 애국심으로 단결해 있으면 쉽사리 침공하지 못한다. 결국 군을 경시하고 군인을 무시하는 자들은 이적행위를 하는 것이다. 적을 경계하는 것과 마찬가지로 끊엄없이 내부의 이적행위자를 경계해야하는 이유다.

대한민국 국회에서 경악할 이적행위가 발생하였다. 전직 국방부장관과 현역 해병대 장군을 불러놓고 추궁을 하다 군 전체를 모독하고 군인을 무시하는 참사가 벌어진 것이다. 법사위원장이 해병대 장군을 일으켜 세워 호통을 치고 밖에나가 10분간 반성을 하라고 퇴장시켰다. 반인권적 언행이며 제복입은 군인을 폄훼하고 군을 모독한 중대 사건이다. 방송을 통해 온 국민이 다 보고있는 상황이었다. 적들도 다 보고 있었을 것이다. 예비역 장병 뿐만아니라 육해공군해병대 현역 장병들도 다 알 수 밖에 없는 상황이다. 이 무슨 만행인가. 누가 국회의원에게 이런 만행을 저지를 특권을 주었는가.

장본인은 해병대 병사의 주검을 밝히기 위한 일이고 그게 국민을 위한 일이며 군을 위한 일이라고 강변하고 있다. 과연 그럴까. 정치적 궤변일 뿐이다. 진짜 이런 목적을 가지고 있었다면 군복을 입은 현역 장군에게 최소한의 예의를 갖추어야 한다. 이렇게 했더라면 진정성을 믿을 수 있었을 것이다. 군의 위상을 실추시키고 군 장병의 사기를 무너뜨리지도 않았을 것이다. 이게 진정 군을 위하고 전체 군인을 존중하는 길이 아닌가. 정치인은 유한하지만 군은 영원히 이어져야 한다. 그래야 국가가 영원히 존속할 수 있다. 이번 만행은 국민의 규탄을 받아 마땅하다.

해병대 장군의 태도를 보니 이 또한 한숨이 나온다. 큰 사건에 연루되어 불려나갔다하나 평생 해병대에서 복무를 해온 장군이 아닌가. 국회의원이 호통치고 막말하며 반성하라고 퇴장시키는데 말한마디 못하나? 막강한 권한을 가지고 있는 국회의원이니 일으켜 세우고 퇴장을 시킬 수 는 있을지라도 해병대와 대한민국 군 전체를 모독하는 언행에 반박 한마디를 못하고 퇴장하는걸 보니 애통한 일이다. 군은 적과 싸워야 하지만 군을 무시하고 군인을 모독하는 내부의 적에게도 당당하게 맞서야 한다. 이것이 올바른 군인정신이다.

해병대 병사의 죽음과 관련된 사안은 명명백백히 밝혀져야 한다. 죄가 있는 자는 누구든 단호하게 처벌해야 한다. 확실한 재발방지 대책이 나와야 한다. 이것이 군을 위하는 일이고 대한민국을 위하는 일이다. 현재 이 사건은 국민적 관심사가 되었고 연일 여야가 공방전을 하고 있다. 언제 끝날지도 알 수가 없다.

국민이 정신 바짝차려야 한다. 사건의 진상을 밝히고 법적 결론이 날 때까지 여야정치인, 논객, 법조인, 언론인등 수많은 사람들이 간여할 것이다. 이중 누가 진정으로 나라와 군을 위한 마음으로 임하는지 살펴보아야 한다. 겉으로는 애국과 정의를 외치면서 군을 무시하고 군인을 모독하는 언동을 하는 자가 내부의 적이다.
