전모를 드러내는 내몽고 적봉시 원보산(元寶山) 적석총유적

지난 9월 22일 ‘중화문명의 찬란한 별-홍산문화 명명 70주년 심포지엄’에서 내몽고자치구 문물고고연구소는, 올해 5월부터 정식 발굴을 시작한 적봉시 오한기(敖漢旗) 하와진(下洼镇)에 있는 홍산문화 후기의 원보산(元寶山) 적석총 유적의 발굴 과정에서 확인된 것에 대한 보고가 있었다.

원보산 적석총 유적은, (1) 홍산문화 만기인 기원전 3100-3000년의 적석총 유적으로, (2) 원보산 적석총은 ‘남쪽의 방형 제단과 북쪽의 원형 계단식 적석총’로 구성된 ‘남단북총(南壇北冢)’의 복합 건축구조물로, (3) 원형 계단식 적석총은 6-7 층으로 지름이 23.5m, 후에 확장된 적석묘까지 포함하면 지름이 28m에 달하고, 현재 남아있는 높이는 0.4-2m 이며, (4) 남쪽의 제단은 벽의 폭이 약 2.35m, 벽 사이의 간격은 20.3m, 제단 내 면적은 약 600-700㎡이며, (5) 이곳에서 발굴된 100여점의 옥기 가운데 이제까지 내몽고 지역에서 발굴된 옥룡(玉龍) 가운데 가장 크고 무거운 길이 15.8cm, 폭 9.5cm, 두께 3cm의 옥룡 1점이 주목을 받으며, (6) 발굴된 옥기 등이 장강 하류의 능가탄(凌家灘)유적의 옥기들과 닮아있어서 이 시기에 이미 ‘서요하 지역과 장강 유역의 선사문명이 깊은 교류’를 하였음을 보여주고 있다. 

신화망이나 인민망 등 중국의 신문에서는 원보산 원형 적석총 유적이 ‘내몽고’ 지역에서 발굴된 홍산문화 후기의 적석총 가운데 최대의 것이고, 무덤과 제단이 결합된 최초의 건축유적이라고 보고 있다. 인민망에서는 여기서 발견된 옥룡은 옥저룡(玉猪龍: 돼지 모습의 옥룡)으로 보도하고 있지만, 이것은 학자들이 옥웅룡(玉熊龍: 곰 모습의 옥룡)으로 부르는 것이다. 옥저룡은 ‘머리 뒤에서 등 줄기 쪽으로 갈귀’가 두드러진 ‘C형 옥룡’으로 위 사진에서 보이는 옥웅룡과 구별된다.

2021년 11월호 『네이처』에는 한국어, 일본어, 몽골어 등을 포함하는 트랜스 유라시아어의 기원지가 ‘9000년 전 서요하 유역의 기장 농업지역’이라는 중요한 논문이 발표되었다. 10개국 40여명의 고고학, 언어학, 유전자분석학 학자들이 망라된 국제적이고 종합적인 연구였다. 이 논문에서 말하는 지역이 바로 필자가 연구하고 있는 ‘요하문명(遼河文明)’ 지역이다. 한국어가 요하문명 지역에서 기원하였다면, 한국의 역사, 문화, 종교, 사상 등등도 모두 요하문명에서 기원한 것이라고 보아야한다.

요하문명의 꽃으로 불리는 홍산문화의 발굴 결과들을 중국 문명의 기원과 적극적으로 연결하고 있는 중국학계와 달리, 한국학계에서는 아직도 한국어가 기원한 곳에서 새롭게 발견된 것들에 대해서 무관심한 것이 참으로 답답하여 짧은 글로나마 소개해 둔다.

On September 22, at the ‘Symposium on the 70th Anniversary of the Naming of the Hongshan Culture: The Brilliant Star of Chinese Civilization – Hongshan Culture’, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology reported on what was discovered during the excavation of the Yuanbaoshan Stone Tomb Site of the late Hongshan Culture in Hawajin, Wuhanqi, Chifeng City, which began its official excavation in May of this year.

The Yuanbaoshan Stone Tomb Site is (1) a stone tomb site from 3100-3000 BC, the end of the Hongshan Culture. (2) the Yuanbaoshan Stone Tomb is a composite architectural structure consisting of a "south square altar and north circular stepped stone tomb" and a "Nandanbeichong (南壇北冢)". (3) the circular stepped stone tomb has 6-7 floors and a diameter of 23.5 m. If the later expanded stone tomb is included, the diameter reaches 28 m. The remaining height is 0.4-2 m. (4) the south altar has a wall width of about 2.35 m, a gap between the walls of 20.3 m, and an area inside the altar of about 600-700 ㎡. (5) among the more than 100 jade artifacts excavated here, the largest and heaviest jade dragon excavated in the Inner Mongolia region so far is 15.8 cm long and 15.8 cm wide. A 9.5cm long, 3cm thick jade dragon is attracting attention, and (6) the excavated jade artifacts resemble the jade artifacts from the Lingjiatan site in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, showing that "the prehistoric civilizations of the West Liao River region and the Yangtze River basin already had deep exchanges" during this period.

Chinese newspapers such as Xinhua News and People's Daily report that the Yuanbaoshan circular stone tomb site is the largest stone tomb site of the late Hongshan culture excavated in the 'Inner Mongolia' region, and the first architectural site combining a tomb and an altar.

People's Daily reports that the jade dragon discovered here is a jade pig dragon (玉猪龍: jade dragon in the shape of a pig), but this is what scholars call a jade bear dragon (玉熊龍: jade dragon in the shape of a bear).
