윤석열 대통령이 2일 이시바 시게루 신임 일본 총리와 첫 전화 통화를 갖고 '계속되는 북한 도발 상황 속 한·일-한·미·일 단합 대응' 필요성에 의견을 같이했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
대통령실에 따르면 윤 대통령은 이날 오후 3시 15분부터 3시 30분까지 15분간 이어진 통화에서 이시바 총리 취임을 축하하면서 함께 이같은 뜻을 모았다.
양 정상은 "국교 정상화 60주년인 내년이 한·일관계가 한 단계 더 도약하는 좋은 계기가 될 것"이라며 "양 국민이 체감할 수 있는 성과를 계속 발굴하도록 함께 노력해 나가자"고 뜻을 모았다.
또 일본인 납치 피해자·우리 납북자·억류자·국군포로 문제 등 북한 인권 문제 관련해서도 향후 계속 협력해 나가기로 했다.
양국 간 셔틀 외교를 지속하며 가급적 이른 시일 내 만나 양국 관계를 비롯 상호 관심사에 대해 허심탄회하게 의견을 교환해 나가기로 했다.
윤 대통령은 "한·일 양국이 가치·이익을 공유하는 중요한 이웃이자 파트너인 만큼 앞으로도 양 정상이 긴밀히 소통하며 협력을 증진해 나가자"고 말했다.
이시바 총리는 "취임 후 이른 시간 안에 윤 대통령과 통화할 수 있어 기쁘게 생각한다"며 "그간 양국 관계 발전을 위해 노력해 온 윤 대통령 리더십을 높게 평가하며 앞으로 긴밀히 소통하고 연대해 나가길 희망한다"고 화답했다.
