장철민 의원 "유망하다던 ‘6-1 광구 중부’, 민간기업 두차례나 떠나"

브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 정부가 가스‧석유 매장 가능성이 높다고 발표했던 ‘6-1 광구 중부’에서 포스코인터내셔널이 사업에 참여했다 포기하고 지분을 반납했다는 지적이 나왔다.

앞서 윤석열 대통령은 지난 6월 3일, 포항 영일만 인근 대량의 석유 매장 가능성이 높다고 발표하며 유망구조가 8 광구와 6-1 광구 북부 및 중동부에 걸쳐 있다고 설명한 바 있다.

이와 관련 장철민 더불어민주당 의원이 산업통상자원부로부터 제출받은 자료에 따르면 8광구 6-1 광구 북부에 대해 2023년 지분을 갖고 있던 우드사이드가 사업을 포기했으며 6-1 광구 중부에선 2018년 지분을 갖고 있던 포스코인터내셔널이 사업을 포기했다.

포스코인터내셔널은 지난 2014년 12월(당시 대우인터내셔널) 석유공사로부터 조광권 30%를 인수했다가, 2018년 12월 추가 탐사를 포기하고 지분을 반납했다.

해당 구역은 그 이전인 2011년에도 STX가 조광권의 30%를 확보했다가 탐사를 포기하고 2014년 석유공사에 지분을 다시 양도하기도 했다.

자료에 따르면, 한국석유공사는 지난 18년 10월에도 17년 5월 3D 탄성파 탄성파 자료를 취득했으며 17년 9월부터 1년여의 탄성파 탐사자료를 평가해 유망구조를 도출했다고 설명했다.

장철민 의원은 "정부와 석유공사가 영일만 앞 바다에 유망구조가 있다고 밝힌 게 이번이 처음이 아니다"라며 "해당 지역의 석유탐사 사업을 민간기업들이 연이어 포기했다는 건 사업성에 문제가 있다는 반증인데, 정부는 국회에 자료도 제출하지 않은 채 무조건 예산 승인만 강요하고 있다"고 지적했다. 그러면서 "국정감사와 예산 심의를 통해 대왕고래 사업의 적정성과 안전성을 반드시 검증할 것" 이라고 강조했다.
