서울 명동거리 파손된 보도블럭 '보행 사고' 우려

명동 거리가 세계 여러 나라의 여행객들로 북적이며 활기를 띠고 있다. 화장품, 의류, 패션, 다양한 길거리 음식을 비롯해 K-투어에서 빼놓을 수 없는 방문지로 꼽힌다. 외국에서 온 관광객들에게는 서울 소재 제1의 랜드마크로 인식될 정도다.

아마도 근동에 남산, 청계천, 광화문, 인사동 등 외국인 관광객들이 선호하는 장소가 인접해 있기 때문인 듯싶다. 아울러 쇼핑할 수 있는 가게와 호텔 등이 몰려 있어서 이용의 편리성도 크게 작용하는 것으로 판단된다.

명동길 따라 많은 여행 인파가 왕래하며 여기저기 빼곡히 늘어선 노점 음식을 즐긴다. 그 때문에 거리 곳곳에 쓰레기 무덤이 있을 것으로 우려했으나 기우에 불과했다. 거리는 활기찼으며, 비교적 청결한 상태를 유지했다.

하지만 어느 귀퉁이에 작은 규모의 유아용 의류가 전시돼 있는데, 국내 제품이 아닌 듯싶었다. 품질에 비해 판매 금액도 높았다. 관심 갖는 사람은 없었으나, 혹여 관광객이 구매하게 된다면 낭패다. 명동에 대한 이미지 훼손은 물론이고, 국가 신뢰도에도 악영향을 끼치게 될 것임이 자명하다.

유독 널찍한 형태를 지닌 보도불럭이 여기저기 위태롭게 오가는 행인들을 노리는 것만 같다. 미관상 흉하거니와, 특히 울퉁불퉁 튀어나온 곳에 발이 걸려 넘어지거나 또는 발목을 겹지를 위험성이 높다. 특히 보행 약자인 장애인과 노인들 경우에는 큰 부상으로 이어질 수 있다.
